On this, my second, boosting of my IG post introducing my novel Taterskin & The Eco Defenders, I will show you, screen by screen, what you see and what your options are when you elect to boost an IG post. I wrote an article previously, Adventures In Boosting IG Posts showing some of this (and other related stuff), but this one specifically shows everything you will encounter when you dive into the shallow end (forking out a measly $30) of the boosting experience.
I’m reboosting the announcement of my novel targeting a different demographic. The first time I targeted those interested in the ecology / environmental issues, and reached 6,083 people.
Now I’m going to try to target readers of Young Adult novels, and see how that goes. I will show you in screen shots the steps it takes / I took to do this.
First, I selected the “Boost Again” button below my post:
Then I saw the “Review” screen, which shows the selections I made last name as the default for this go-round:
Then I clicked “Preview Ad” and saw what it would look like when the “Stories” element of the boost displayed:
Alrighty then.
After selecting Interests and Location and leaving the Age/Gender as-was (and giving the promotion a name (“Young Adult Novel Readers”)), I saw that I would supposedly reach 100 million people. That would be nice:
Then, after adding a few more interests, my reach skied up to 150 million (give or take a few million) :
That would be nice, too (c. 150 million reached). But then my shot was blocked somehow, and I dropped from 150 million down to from 4,500 to 12,000 people:
Was it something I said? Finally, I got a pat on the back, and the caveat that my campaign had to be reviewed and approved before it went into effect:
That’s it for now. I will update this post as things change/proceed.

The post has been approved, and is currently being promoted/boosted. With 28% of the campaign over, I have gained another 1900+ people reached, so by extrapolation I can expect to get about 6,700 from this campaign, as opposed to 6,083 on the first one, so this demographic may be a little more effective than the last. My third and probably final boost will focus on animal lovers, and specifically Labrador Retriever enthusiasts (the protagonist is a Lab). Maybe Golden Retriever lovers, too, as his “forever dogfriend” is of that breed; last but not least, perhaps, those who like Goldadors (a mashup of those two breeds) may be interested, as the four Goldador pups are also featured in the book.
