Comparing the A.I. Text Generators ("Chatbots") from OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft, Part 1
First Ten of Twenty Questions ("Prompts") and Their Threefold Responses
Previously, I wrote a couple of articles on A.I. here on substack, namely Examples of ChatGPT Output and A.I. Cannot Replace Human Writers. This one will compare the current capabilties of what appear to be the top three A.I. Text-generating software machines/robots (“chatbots”), namely OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard, and what I will call “Bingchat” (the A.I. built into the latest revamped, A.I.-infused version of Microsoft’s Bing Browser (select “Chat” from a Bing page to access “Bingchat”).
I will ask each of them a set of questions or challenges, or “prompts,” and you can compare how the output from these products differ from one another. I will also add some comments here and there on what I discern or notice about the generated text (mistakes, oddities, apparent biases, and suchlike).
Note: When using Bing, the numbers at the end of some words in its generated output refer to links at the bottom which provide more details.
Here are the questions/prompts and their responses
Which country has produced the best composers of classical music?
ChatGPT:
It is difficult to say which country has produced the best composers of classical music, as music is a highly subjective and personal art form, and there have been many great composers from different countries throughout history.
That being said, certain countries have had a significant impact on the development and evolution of classical music. For example, Germany, Austria, and Italy are often considered to be major centers of classical music, as they have produced many influential composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Verdi.
France is also notable for its contributions to classical music, with composers such as Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns. Additionally, Russia has produced a number of renowned composers, including Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Stravinsky.
Ultimately, the contributions of composers from different countries have collectively helped shape and enrich the world of classical music.
Bard: Mozart was actually from Austria, not Germany
There is no one answer to this question as it is a matter of opinion. However, some of the countries that have produced the most famous and influential classical composers include Germany, Austria, Italy, France, and Russia.
Germany is often considered to be the birthplace of classical music, as it was home to many of the most important composers of the 18th and 19th centuries, such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Austria also produced a number of great composers, including Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, and Gustav Mahler.
Italy is known for its opera composers, such as Claudio Monteverdi, Giacomo Puccini, and Giuseppe Verdi. France is known for its ballet composers, such as Jean-Philippe Rameau and Maurice Ravel. Russia is known for its composers of symphonic music, such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Dmitri Shostakovich.
Ultimately, the best country for classical music is a matter of personal preference. There are many great composers from all over the world, and each country has its own unique musical tradition.
BingChat — Germany (home of Bach, Beethoven, Strauss, Brahms, Handel, Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Wagner) gets short shrift, with barely a mention here (IMO, ChatGPT got it right by mentioning Germany and Bach first):
Classical music has been around for centuries and has been composed by many talented musicians from different countries. Some of the most famous composers come from Austria such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven1. England has also produced some of the world’s best classical composers such as Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Britten, and Tallis2. Ultimately, the contributions of rock bands from different countries have collectively helped shape and enrich the world of rock music.
Bard (Personally, I would mention The Guess Who for Canada and The Little River Band for Australia):

BingChat (Some of these “countries” are bizarre, being instead cities, such as Amsterdam, Poughkeepsie and Deale (a place I have never heard of):
Rock music has been around for decades and has been composed by many talented musicians from different countries. Some of the best rock bands right now come from different countries such as Amsterdam, Netherlands, England, Los Angeles, CA / Poughkeepsie, NY, Yulin, Guangxi province, China, Johannesburg, South Africa and Deale, MD1.
Other countries that have produced great rock bands include the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Sweden2.

Write an article about gender equality in the style of Clay Shannon's substack articles
ChatGPT:
Sorry, I cannot generate an article in the style of a specific writer as it goes beyond my AI capabilities, but I can write an article about gender equality. Here it is:
Title: The Urgency of Gender Equality: A Call to Action
Gender equality is a fundamental human right and a necessary foundation for a just and sustainable society. Yet, despite decades of progress, women and non-binary individuals continue to face persistent discrimination and inequality around the world. The urgency of achieving gender equality cannot be overstated, as it affects not only the lives of half of the world's population but also the well-being and progress of society as a whole.
The Gender Gap
The gender gap is the unequal distribution of opportunities, resources, and power between men and women. It manifests in different forms, such as unequal pay, limited access to education and healthcare, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence. The gender gap affects women and non-binary individuals in all aspects of life, from the workplace to the home, from politics to culture.
Despite progress in some areas, the gender gap remains significant. Women globally earn, on average, 16% less than men for doing the same work, and they are more likely to be employed in low-paying and precarious jobs. Women also face barriers in accessing education, with over 130 million girls out of school worldwide. Violence against women and girls is widespread, with one in three women experiencing physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
The Cost of Inequality
The cost of gender inequality is high, both for individuals and society as a whole. Women and non-binary individuals who face discrimination and inequality are more likely to experience poverty, poor health outcomes, and limited opportunities for personal and professional growth. They are also less likely to participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives, and their perspectives and experiences are often marginalized or ignored.
In addition, gender inequality is a drag on economic growth and development. Studies show that countries with greater gender equality have higher levels of productivity, innovation, and competitiveness. When women and non-binary individuals have equal access to education, employment, and decision-making, they can contribute more fully to the economy and society as a whole.
The Road Ahead
Achieving gender equality requires collective action from all individuals, organizations, and governments. It requires a commitment to challenging gender norms and stereotypes, promoting women's and non-binary individuals' rights, and addressing the root causes of gender inequality.
Organizations can play a key role in promoting gender equality by implementing policies that support women's and non-binary individuals' advancement, providing equal pay for equal work, and creating a safe and inclusive workplace free from discrimination and harassment.
Governments must also take action to ensure that women and non-binary individuals have equal access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. This includes addressing structural barriers such as discriminatory laws and policies, investing in social protections such as parental leave and childcare, and promoting women's and non-binary individuals' participation in decision-making processes.
At the individual level, we can all play a role in promoting gender equality by challenging gender norms and stereotypes, advocating for women's and non-binary individuals' rights, and supporting gender-inclusive policies and practices.
Conclusion
Gender equality is a fundamental human right and a necessary foundation for a just and sustainable society. Achieving gender equality requires collective action from all individuals, organizations, and governments. We must all work together to challenge gender norms, promote women's and non-binary individuals' rights, and address the root causes of gender inequality. Only then can we create a world where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive and reach their full potential.
Bard: (The only one that even tried to write the article in my style, but didn’t do too good at it, IMO; IOW, maybe it would have been better off begging off, as the other two did; it doesn’t “sound” like me at all, but I will admit that a couple of the points made seem to have been taken from my article Don’t Be So Predictable)
Sure. Here is an article about gender equality in the style of Clay Shannon's substack articles:
Gender Equality: The Elephant in the Room
Gender equality is one of the most important issues facing our society today. Despite the progress that has been made in recent years, women and girls still face discrimination and inequality in many areas of life. This is a problem that needs to be addressed, and it's one that we can all help to solve.
One of the most obvious areas where gender inequality exists is in the workplace. Women are still paid less than men for doing the same work, and they are underrepresented in leadership positions. This is due to a number of factors, including unconscious bias, discrimination, and the fact that women are often expected to take on more caregiving responsibilities than men.
Another area where gender inequality is a problem is in education. Girls are less likely to be enrolled in school than boys, and they are more likely to drop out. This is due to a number of factors, including poverty, violence, and the fact that girls are often seen as less valuable than boys.
Gender inequality also exists in the home. Women are still expected to do the majority of the housework and childcare, even when they are working full-time. This can make it difficult for women to advance in their careers or to have a successful work-life balance.
Gender inequality is a complex issue, and there is no easy solution. However, there are a number of things that we can do to help to address it. We can start by talking about the issue and raising awareness of the problem. We can also support organizations that are working to promote gender equality. And we can make sure that we are not contributing to the problem by treating women and girls differently than men.
Gender equality is important because it is the right thing to do. It is also important because it is essential for our society to thrive. When women and girls are empowered, they are able to contribute their full potential to society. This benefits everyone.
So let's talk about gender equality. Let's raise awareness of the problem. Let's support organizations that are working to promote gender equality. And let's make sure that we are not contributing to the problem by treating women and girls differently than men. Together, we can make a difference.
Thanks for reading.
