I took last year off from watching football, as a sort of protest against the way Colin Kaepernick has been boycotted (obvious collusion on the part of the owners).
This year, I’ll again watch “everyman’s team,” the Green Bay Packers (my favorite team for over 50 years). I’m excited to see how they’ll do with their “new look” (sans Rodgers) team.
I will try to remember to make a prediction each week about the upcoming game. First, though:
SEASON PREDICTION
11-6, winning the division
And now (fake drumroll):
PREDICTION for SUNDAY, 9/10 in the WINDBAG CITY
Packers 30, Los Osos 17
Side(dish) Note: The Packers website has an almost-daily (never on Sunday) feature called “Insider Inbox”). Therein of late there has been talk of a meal consisting of chili and cinnamon rolls. At first, I thought they meant a cinnamon roll with chili poured over the top of it (which sounds worse than terrible), but it’s actually simply a pairing of the tasty treat with the beans with (con) or without (sans) meat (carne). It sounds so strange I’m going to have to try it. It is reported that it is an “Iowa” thing, but they also mix beer and tomato juice (yes, together!), so I’m not so sure this is a good idea, but I’m going to give it a go, anyway. School attendance in Iowa took a jump whenever the chili/cinnamon roll combination was on the menu. Ten million corn-fed whippersnappers can’t be wrong?
UPDATE SUNDAY 9/10 2:01 PM (PACIFIC TIME)
This is really irritating: they were advertising the Packers-Bears game as being “America’s Game of the Week” to be broadcast on Fox, but then all of a sudden it switched to Rams-Seahucksters. I guess they’re saying that the West Coast is not part of California? I do understand that a West Coast audience would prefer to see the Big Smoggy vs. Umbrella Central play each other, but why say it’s going to be Packers-Bears?!? If the broadcast is locale-specific, so should the commercials be.
Anyway, I’m following along on the Live Blog on packers.com, and Everyman’s Team is up 7-3 near the end of the first quarter.
UPDATE 2 SUNDAY 9/10 (2:52 PM)
Packers lead 10-6 at the half. I’m following along intermittently on the blog. I play along to a song on my bass, then check what’s new on the Live blog, play along to another song, check what’s new, etc. Packers scored first (touchdown) and last (52-yard Field Goal as time expired in the first half), with Bearcats booting two FGs in-between those Green Bay scores.
UPDATE 3 SUNDAY 9/10 (4:28 PM)
My score prediction was pretty close: both teams scored a few more points than I thought they would, but the differential in points is 18 points (38-20) as opposed to 13 (30-17). Works for me. It’s also good that the Vikings lost.
