So-low O’Tawney, the pride of Limerick, has made news the world over by signing the lowest-ever baseball contract, inking a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers for $7 (U.S.). He is contractually obligated to play for them for the next 700 years, making his annual income from the Los Angeles ballclub one single, solitary (but shiny!) penny. He is being heralded as an “insurance signing” by the Dodgers, just in case certain other players “don’t pan out.”
