MyCover Letter and Resume tell the whole story of this post, so here they are:
CLAY SHANNON’S COVER LETTER

After having been retired from work for almost four years now, I am looking for part-time work due to inflation (especially felt in annual rent increases and the ever-increasing cost of groceries and fuel); I need to supplement my income (social security mostly, and a little bit of royalties/residuals I receive from books I have written).
My resume is attached; it is not the typical resume, for a few reasons:
1) Reading and writing resumes is tedious and boring
2) I’m so old (65) experienced that I’ve had too many different jobs over the decades to go into details on all of them
3) The only thing former employers will tell you anyway nowadays is that they can confirm the person you are inquiring about did (or did not) work there, and that’s about it. If you need to be convinced I did any of these jobs, I’d be glad to sit down with you and discuss them; I’m sure you’ll realize that I’m a straightforward (“down-to-earth”) and honest person.
In addition to my resume, you can also get a feel for who I am by checking out my substack site here: [ where on the real cover letter I include a link to this (“rambling notes of a geezer”) site ]
Physically, I am no weakling, but neither am I “buffed” (although I once was, when I was delivering sheetrock).
Mentally, I am no genius (except perhaps a creative one), but I keep my mind sharp by playing music (bass guitar) and taking daily language lessons (via Duolingo) in both German and Spanish. I also read a lot and write fairly often.
As for the creative genius possibility, look no further than my novel Taterskin & The Eco Defenders. There’s nothing else much like it, although it was influenced by Hugh Lofting’s Dr. Dolittle stories and Edward Abbey’s The Monkey Wrench Gang.
I am quite healthy; I have missed a total of only a handful of days of work in my life.
16-20 hours per week is all I need (and all I have time for). I am available Tuesdays-Fridays (or any subset of those days). I am not available on the weekends or on Mondays, when I do volunteer work at the prison in Soledad and elsewhere.

MONSTER MAKES A MONSTROUS MISTAKE
After uploading my cover letter/resume combination to a few places where you can do that, I got this email from Monster:
Say what?!? I think in this case AI stands for Authentically Idiotic. How does 50 years of experience become Zilch/Zip/Nada?!?
