There are few perfect things in this world. Few is not none. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is the perfect beer. It goes with everything beerable and fits smack dab between the smoothest and bitingest beers.
By “smooth,” I mean those so-called beers that are really just tapwater with a pinch of beer flavor added, seemingly as an afterthought. I’m looking at you, Coors Lite! Even worse, though, is Budweiser (the American one, not the original Budweiser from the Czech Republic which, although not as good as Pilsner Urquell — especially on tap! — is orders of magnitude better than the American swill, which seems to have as ingredients sugar, Tide, and lizard spit).
Even worse yet (who woulda thunk it possible!?) is American Budweiser’s deranged cousin Michelob. Smooth? Yes, it is! Which is something beer should not be. If you want smooth, have a Ginger Ale, a Cream soda, or a tub of Cool Whip.
At the other end of the spectrum (the “biting” beers) is extra-super-duper-triple-extreme, hoppier-than-a-scared-rabbit India Pale Ale. Too bitter; overpowers most food. I know it’s the preferred beer style of the self-proclaimed beer connoisseurs (a fad), but who gives a rodent’s hindquarters?
Again, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is the absolute perfect beer. Besides being full-flavored with just the right amount of bitterness (beer is supposed to be bitter, after all), it has a great classic label and its amber hue boldly and proudly shines as pretty and alluring as can be.
My favorite time to drink beer — or, better expressed, my favorite circumstance in which to drink beer — is either with foods that beer pairs well with, or when I’m hot and sweaty; nothing quenches my thirst like a cold (but not ice-cold) beer, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is the perfect brew for that job.
There are two other perfect imbibables: Round Table Italian Garlic Supreme pizza, and Reezy Kupz (aka Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups) — but only when they are super-fresh. Unfresh Reezy Kupz are only average; I prefer a Baby Ruth or a 100 Grand bar over an unfresh Reezy Kup.
This is the perfect meal: Round Table Italian Garlic Supreme pizza with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, followed by fresh Reezy Kupz for “dessert.”
The only problem with this combination is that it’s easy to have one piece of RTIGS too many, one bottle of SNPA too many, and about a million Reezy Kupz too many — you never get “sweeted out” with Reezy Kupz because of the saltiness of the peanut butter filling, and you never get “salted out” because of the sweetness of the chocolate. The sweet and salt cancel each other out — dangerous!
I made myself hungry…
