Serialization of "Quedly Dake and His Quest to Conquer the Globe" — Chapter 13 of 25
From Book 3 of the Trilogy “Taterskin & The Eco Defenders”
“The Wet Tortugas?!? Where is that?” asked Drako. “I’ve never heard of it, or them.”
“I’ve heard of the Dry Tortugas, but not the Wet Tortugas,” Ocero Puddleby said.
“You’ve never heard of it because it’s a super-secret place,” Alexis revealed. “Only birds that can travel very long distances without landing have ever seen it. It’s not on any maps. It’s the most isolated island in the world.”
“Can Dake survive there?” Rovette asked.
“Oh, easily,” Alexis answered. “There’s plenty of fruit, and turtles, and it rains almost every day. It never gets cold enough there to be a real problem. It also never gets extremely hot, although Dake will have to get used to the humidity.”
“So it sounds like we’re sending him to a ‘Country Club’ sort of exile,” Rory said. “Do we really want to reward him for his malignancy?”
“I wouldn’t quite put it that way, Rory,” Alexis replied. “Actually, Turtles aren’t the only reptiles that call the Wet Tortugas home. The place also swarms with Snakes, some of which are venomous and even aggressive. So Dake will have to keep his eyes open and his wits about him. And if he wants to escape the ‘Slithering Sisterhood’ on land, he’s really got nowhere to go, because if he tries to escape into the ocean, there are multitudes of Sharks that patrol the shore and would not-so-gently persuade him to get back to land.”
“You said he could easily survive there, but it sounds a bit challenging,” Chapawee said.
“Well, I guess it depends on your definition of ‘easily,’ but if Dake can’t survive in the Wet Tortugas, it’s his own fault for not paying enough attention to his surroundings.”
