The Ggma Chronicles, Part 11: Avoiding Posing and Bitter Medicine
A Dipperful of Molasses Helps the Sulphur Go Down?
The following is transcribed from a sheet of notes written by my maternal grandmother, Alice Green Kollenborn (1911-2005).
Two things I disliked most as a child were picture-taking time and medicine giving. Hid out — either under table or in little brother’s box.
Sulphur + Molasses.
So many kids Papa never noticed missing me. Kids never told on me — either because they liked the stuff or dreaded it so much they never missed me either.
Even before old enough to remember I’m told Papa gave me money to pose for photographer.
Kids always seem to have an inbred [? inborn?] love for money or perhaps we are more like a crow than we know + just love shiny objects.
Money wouldn’t be an enticement now with its dull tarnish.
It’s interesting that right after dissing money for its dullness, she has a figure written on the page, adding what are probably two monetary values:
“Old Fashioned Custard” is written on the back of the sheet. Perhaps this was a reminder to herself of something to write about later.
