2018 — Thai Soccer Team Trapped in Water-filled Cave

After soccer practice on this date in 2018, the coach took the boys (aged 11 to 16) on what was intended to be a brief spelunking outing in Thailand. After they entered the cave, though, a monsoon downpour occurred, filling the cave with water and trapping them two-and-a-half miles in.
It took more than two weeks for them to be located and then one-by-one brought out by expert scuba divers in a daring and ingenious rescue mission. One of the rescuers died at the time, and another died a year later as a result of an infection he caught at the time. All the boys and their coach were rescued.
When the soccer team was rescued, it was out of food and almost out of oxygen.
