This song was from kind of a weird band, but they were the favorite of my good friend Oscar. As they said/sang, People Are Strange, and they were themselves a band that was strange. How strange? First, Some people think the singer is still alive, playing the accordion on the streets of Paris for tips or something; second, the guitarist only changed his strings if they broke (contrast this with Peter Frampton, who would change his strings before every song in the studio); and third, they didn’t have a bass player (even three-piece bands, such as Taste and Cream, had bass players, for cryin’ out loud!). That is to say, this band didn’t have a regular, on-stage bassist. They did sometimes employ one in the studio, as this song’s bass line was thumped out by Lonnie Mack (no relation to Jimmy, AFAIK, who may or may not be coming back).
Last week’s riff was from the song “Down on the Corner” by Creedence Clearwater Revival
