Serialization of "Quedly Dake and His Quest to Conquer the Globe" — Chapter 10 of 25
From Book 3 of the Trilogy “Taterskin & The Eco Defenders”
The answer OmniMagister gave to the query shocked everyone:
Dake set out to become the Secretary General of the U.N. as well as remaining U.S. President
“Why? The U.N. is a paper tiger. Nobody listens to them,” Ravelle X said. “Alexis, can you ask—”
“My beak is getting tired from all this chattering,” Alexis said. “Go ahead and ask the questions yourself for a while, people [Alexis had no qualms about calling all of the Eco Defenders, human and animal, by the collective noun ‘people’].”
“OmniMagister,” Ravelle X said, leaning toward the device, “Why did Dake want to run the U.N. as well as the U.S.?”
Through his usual method of flattery, bribery, and threats, Dake wanted to bolster the authority and power of the U.N. and then, as its Secretary General, make it the world’s only governing authority with himself as its head
“OmniMagister, was he successful in doing this?” Jowls asked.
Yes. Dake got everyone with pull and power and influence to back him, through his usual three tactics, and then he changed his title from Secretary General and President to Exalted Emperor of the World. He said this position would be held by him in perpetuity and that all should bow before him and address him as Oh Most Holy and Exemplary Exalted Emperor of the World
“That’s quite a mouthful,” Chapawee said. “And I thought They Are Afraid of Her was an awkward and lengthy descriptor.”
[If you have read my earlier books, you might remember that They Are Afraid of Her is Chapawee’s alternate name]
“OmniMagister, is there anything else we need to know about Dake?” Jowls Behemoth queried.
I can’t say yet. What do you need to know?
Jowls looked disappointed and stamped his feet impatiently on the ground, thinking Albert and Alexis’ pet robot should be able to read his mind.
Ocero Puddleby took up the thread: “OmniMagister, I think what we want to know is this: Did Dake do anything else outrageous or audacious?”
That depends, of course, on what you consider ‘outrageous or audacious.’ I can tell you, though, that Dake tried to force all nations of the earth to change to a new worldwide currency. He called the coins “Dakelings” and “Pieces of Dake”
“That’s just weird,” Yookie said.
“Maybe so,” Albert said, “But I’m not sure that having a currency in common is such a bad idea—aside from the self-aggrandizing names he gave the coins he put into circulation.”
“I doubt he did it merely for the sake of convenience,” Ravelle X said. “He has given no indication he cares about anyone but himself, as far as I can see. OmniMagister, why did Dake change the world’s currency? What was in it for him?”
After getting the majority of the world’s nations to switch over to his currency, he claimed all their money belonged to him, and that they must ‘fork it over,’ as he so elegantly phrased it
“That makes no sense,” Chapawee said. “What made him think it all belonged to him just because the money was called Dakelings and Pieces of Dake?”
He claimed to quote the Bible, saying ‘Pay back Dake’s things to Dake,’ and accused anyone who would refuse to give him his ‘just due’ of being an infidel, a pagan, and stupid to boot
“OmniMagister,” Stripes said, “You said Dake tried to force all nations to make this change, and that the majority of the world switched over. So he obviously wasn’t completely successful, right?”
Not at first, anyway. But he ended up getting all of his demands.
