Serialization of "Quedly Dake and His Quest to Conquer the Globe" — Chapter 5 of 25
From Book 3 of the Trilogy “Taterskin & The Eco Defenders”
“OmniMagister, what did Dake do with the pinormous amount of money he got from the Medieval coins he sold?”
[Squirk] That does not compute. Please rephrase the question or define the word ‘pie-normous’
Alexis didn’t feel like explaining her little joke. Yukyuk didn’t even get it, as was obvious from her failure to chuckle and the nonplussed look on her face.
“OmniMagister, what did Dake do with the 314 million dollars he got from the Medieval coins he sold?”
Dake invested it in Apple
“He bought apples?” Rinky asked, scarcely believing his ears. “I like apples as much as the next Monotreme (and more than some of them), but I don’t see why he would want millions upon gazillions of apples — wouldn’t most of them get rotten before he got around to eating them?”
“I don’t think he meant the fruit, Rinky,” Rory said, swishing his tail slowly back and forth.
“Then what did he mean?” the Platypus countered.
“An insanely profitable corporation,” Ocero Puddleby answered. “By the 2020s, they had over 100 billion dollars. Dake knew how successful Apple would be.”
“Is this what they call ‘Insider Trading’?” Yookie asked.
“Not really, no,” Albert answered. “Dake wasn’t really an insider. Maybe it would be called Hindsighter trading; or would it be Foresighter trading?” he then wondered aloud.
Alexis looked thoughtful for a few seconds, whistling and swiveling her head from side to side. She then resumed the interrogation of the software she and Albert had designed.
“OmniMagister, when did Dake invest his money into Apple, and when did he (assuming he did, that is) eventually sell his stock, and for how much?”
Dake purchased 14 million shares of Apple stock at $22 per share in 1980, immediately after selling his Medieval coins. He sold his shares for $314 each in 2027 (more than 14 times what he had paid for them), receiving $4,396,000,000
“He got four billion dollars?!?” Jowls Behemoth asked, shaking his head in wonder.
“Yes, plus a mere 396 million of pocket change,” Albert clarified, “for odds and ends and miscellanea, I imagine.”
“That’s an ROI of—” Alexis started to say, doing the math in her head.
“REI!?! I love REI!” Terri Wingfinger interrupted. “They make a backpack that is both lightweight and aerodynamic! It’s a great accessory for discriminating (and beautiful, I might add) flying lizards like myself.”
“No, Terri—” Falcona started to say.
“Never mind, Falcona,” Alexis said. “What we really want to know is this: OmniMagister, what did Dake use his money for after becoming a billionaire in 2027?”
